Hayward is excited to announce an opportunity to join its progressive and dynamic team as a Senior Civil Engineer. The Senior Civil Engineer will assist with supervising the project management section of the Planning Division of the Development Services Department, participate in the conduct of complicated engineering planning, design, and investigating activities and assist management personnel in the administration of the assigned duties. This is a mid-level management position responsible for providing technical and functional supervision over assigned engineering and technical staff.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage the more complex and professional engineering work requiring a substantial level of training and experience. Knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and practices as applied in the planning, design and construction of private development projects, current methods and techniques related to the development and implementation of contracts, agreements, plans, and procedures, and applicable laws and regulations relevant to design and construction in the area of assignment, is expected. Candidates for this position should demonstrate a strong work ethic and possess exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to developing strong, positive working relationships as coordination with other engineers in the Public Works Engineering and Transportation and Utilities sections will be critical to success in this role. Public Agency experience preferred.
The Development Services Department is comprised of the Administration, Building, Planning and Code Enforcement Divisions that work collaboratively to protect the economic, structural and environmental health and safety of the Hayward community. Department staff are dedicated to attaining quality development, ensuring structural integrity, and maintaining a visual aesthetic that will add value to the City of Hayward through building inspection, and enforcement of local, state, and federal standards.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in professional engineering work in area of assignment, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major work in civil engineering or a closely related field.
Licenses and Certificates: Possess a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California. Possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver's License.
