Mechanical Process Engineer – Wastewater / Water Treatment Systems
Parsons is seeking a Mechanical Process Engineer with a technical background in water/wastewater treatment process pre-design and design to join our established wastewater group in Pasadena, California. This position will be responsible for leading projects through planning, design and construction phases and interfacing with municipal clients and permitting agencies on water and wastewater treatment plant upgrade and expansion projects while providing task and project management support to senior level managers.
The ideal candidate will have an opportunity to work on multiple challenging projects and demonstrate depth of technical knowledge and leadership skills on various wastewater treatment plant projects.

Develop mechanical design projects from inception to completion and may lead teams in various design tasks.
Lead mechanical design efforts on a range of wastewater infrastructure projects.
Prepare necessary analyses, detailed calculations and process mechanical design and layouts.
Perform preliminary design, detailed design, value engineering, including development of drawings, preparation of specifications, selection of process equipment, equipment vendor assessments, as well as site inspections and condition assessments for the engineering, procurement, and construction of wastewater treatment and pumping facilities.
Interact with and oversee the work of CAD staff.
Provide office and field engineering support services during construction.
Liaison with internal design disciplines and external clients to develop relationships and cooperation with engineers and designers across other disciplines in producing project deliverables.
Assist project managers on large, complex projects, including task management.
Bring creativity in predesign and design for value added solutions.
Maintain communication and strong relationship with regulatory agencies to support project permitting.
Communicate and work directly with clients.
Assist project managers in scoping and proposing on potential projects and selling new work.
A detailed knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering design and installation, specializing in the wastewater Industry, in particular significant experience of producing mechanical design for pumping stations and wastewater treatment works.
Specific knowledge in the areas of: hydraulic calculations, design and layouts for process piping, plumbing systems, chemical storage systems, chemical feed systems, pumping systems (including system head curves, pump curves, pump selection and motor sizing); solids handling systems, MBR, blower systems, and HVAC systems.
Working knowledge of various wastewater treatment processes
Essential experience required includes preliminary design, detailed design and calculations, value engineering, preparation of specifications, selection of process equipment, equipment vendor assessments, and reports as well as undertaking site inspections and condition assessments.
Experience in producing/reviewing project documentation (reports, plans, specifications, and O&M manuals), equipment data sheets, P&IDs, plant layout drawings, and engineering support during construction.
Knowledge and applications of industry code and standards such as ASME, ASTM, ANSI, UPC, NFPA, AWWA, etc.
Good written and verbal communication skills
4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) and 8 years or more of related work experience with water/wastewater
Professional Engineer (PE) registration is highly preferred.
8 plus years of experience in municipal water and wastewater treatment and pumping system engineering is preferred
