Position Summary: Under direct supervision of the Department Director or designee, performs engineering work involved in the procurement, planning, design, construction, inspection, and acceptance of major infrastructural and systems; serves as project manager, evaluates performance of new and existing operations and provides guidance and direction to work crews, as appropriate. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: •Prepares electric distribution system performing analysis and modeling of electrical system, including outages and metering applications. •Maintains records of system conditions. •Prepares demand and energy forecasts. •Evaluates operational procedures and recommends improvements. •Maintains protection system database. Analyzes and evaluates system protection operation, control upgrades, and electric system configuration to assure maximum reliability. •Coordinates, plans, and recommends energy conservation measures in the electric distribution system. •Evaluates equipment failures and recommends corrective action. •Performs short circuit and load coordination studies and recommends improvements. •Assists with preparation of annual capital and operating budgets for electrical distribution. •Identify the training needs of electric distribution line crew.
•Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or related field. •Six years of experience in a related engineering function or for a consulting engineer. •New Mexico Professional Engineer or registration in a different state with the ability to become registered in New Mexico within six months of employment. •Must possess or have ability to obtain within first sixty days of employment and must maintain a valid New Mexico Class D driver’s license. •Successful completion of the pre-employment physical exam prior to commencing work. •If working in Utilities, successful completion of mandatory drug screening and subsequent random drug and alcohol screenings.
Preferred Qualifications: •Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
