The Public Works, Engineering Division's Transportation Planning Team is seeking a driven and collaborative person who thrives in a team environment. The Team works with government partners and community groups to develop and implement short and long-range plans, develop multimodal transportation projects including new pedestrian and bicycle facilities and the redesign of streets, and obtain financial resources to plan and build projects that lead to a complete, comfortable and safe multimodal transportation system.
Transportation Planning's programs include:
Implementing the Eugene 2035 Transportation System Plan (TSP) including policy and program development and capital project design and development
Implementing the Eugene Vision Zero Action Plan
Coordinating planning efforts locally and regionally
This is a new position on the Transportation Planning Team. The person in this position will coordinate the City's emerging Vision Zero program and implementation of the Eugene 2035 TSP. Vision Zero is a city goal to eliminate all deaths and life changing injuries on Eugene streets by 2035. Implementation of the Eugene Vision Zero Action Plan will include organizing or participating on numerous internal and external committees that will work together to reach the Vision Zero goal, coordinating among several City Departments, working with community advocates, and reporting on Vision Zero performance measures. Work on TSP implementation will include development of and reporting on TSP performance measures, updating of the TSP Implementation Strategy, and coordination of city policy development and initiatives on electric and autonomous vehicles.
Depending upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities possessed by the successful applicant, this position may be filled at either the Assistant Planner or the Associate Planner level.
Experience and Training Guidelines Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Assistant Planner - One year of transportation planning related experience. Associate Planner - Three years of transportation planning related experience
Training: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in urban and regional planning, transportation or civil engineering or closely related field. Master's degree in a planning related field is desirable.
