Focus of the candidate should be in areas related to animal housing, engineering and energy strategies in controlled environments. The incumbent will work closely with fellow Agricultural and Biological Engineering faculty within and external to Mississippi State University in a multidisciplinary, collaborative approach, as well as with faculty in other departments within and external to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Experiment Station, and Extension Agents. The incumbent will be expected to secure extramural funding to support research and Extension activities, publish research findings in Extension Bulletins or appropriate professional journals, make presentations at professional meetings, and actively participate in professional societies (membership, presentations, committee involvement, officer roles, etc.). The incumbent will be expected to advise and direct graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to collaborative teaching in on- and off-campus-based educational programs. Educational programs should be developed for clientele and county Extension Agents based on needs assessments to include national, regional, state and local county needs. Programs should be developed with curricula that can be delivered and evaluated by the specialist and/or county Extension Agents resulting in measured impacts.

Minimum Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. in agricultural, biological, or environmental engineering, or engineering technology, or a related field. Acceptable candidate must have outstanding English verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should have experience in agricultural engineering related to animal housing and should be familiar with methodologies, tools, experimental design, and concepts related to animal housing environments and related fields. The candidate should have experience working with data acquisition systems and sensors for environmental and energy monitoring and be familiar with poultry housing environmental control and energy systems and the methods and structure of the vertically integrated poultry industry. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop a successful Extension program in animal housing engineering and/or energy strategies in controlled environments.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Extension and/or research focused on agricultural engineering with an emphasis in animal housing. Preference will be given to candidates with an established Extension and research record that includes peer-reviewed and extension publications, external funding, and collaboration with external stakeholders. Candidates must show an ability to work effectively with stakeholders and other scientists across disciplines to address critical issues.
