With more than one million residents, San José is Northern California’s largest city and one of the most diverse large cities in the United States. Public Works is one of the largest Departments in the City of San José with a staff of 562 and an annual operating budget of $159 million. In addition to developing and implementing the City’s capital improvement program, the Department manages the City’s fleet and facilities assets, coordinates engineering review and approval of land development proposals, and oversees animal care and services.
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and any combination of training and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in public administration, business administration, or a discipline related to the business performed by the department AND 10 years of progressively responsible experience, including at least 5 years at a management and policy making level. Also requires a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the State of California.
