The Department of Civil Engineering at McMaster University invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-stream position in the area of Transportation Engineering. This position is targeted at the Assistant level; however, highly qualified individuals will be considered at the Associate or Professor level. Applicants must have a PhD in Transportation Engineering or equivalent and are expected to become a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario. We seek a unique and dynamic colleague who will positively contribute to the teaching, research and service efforts of the Department. Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student centred environment.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a track record involving innovative and collaborative research in advanced technologies, big data management, and planning, operation, and management of transportation systems and infrastructure. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Connected and Autonomous Vehicles; Smart Cities; Cyber-Physical Systems for Transportation; Transit Design, Operation, and Management; Transportation Safety; Transportation Data Analytics; Traffic Modelling; and integration with other engineering disciplines such as construction, energy, sustainability, risk and resiliency.

With a vision of building healthier communities, our faculty members work collaboratively in the following four research themes: Resilient Infrastructure Systems, Smarter Mobility, Water Security and Climate Change, and Intelligent Energy Systems. The Department is home to the McMaster Institute for Transportation and Logistics and the McMaster Interface Institute for Systemic Risk Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in both our graduate and undergraduate civil engineering programs, supervise graduate students and develop a strong research program by attracting funding from granting agencies and other external sources to support her/his research activities.
