Assistant Professor Hydrology Department of Civil Engineering University of Manitoba
The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a 4-year term position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of hydrology (Position 18235) with a start date of January 1, 2018.
The successful candidate: 1) must hold undergraduate and doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering or a related area; 2) must be registered or eligible for registration as a member of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba; 3) will be expected to develop and teach civil engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; 4) will be expected to establish an externally funded and sustainable research program; and 5) must possess excellent communication and leadership skills.
We are particularly interested in candidates who complement existing expertise in the department and who have a demonstrated record of research and publications in one or more of the following areas: stochastic hydrology, climate change impacts, statistical and dynamical downscaling, ensemble flood forecasting, drought estimation, hydrometeorology, stochastic and statistical streamflow modelling, and hydropower production. The Water Resources Engineering Group constitutes a core portion of the Civil Engineering Department and has established collaborations both within the Department and Faculty and with external industry and other Canadian research networks. Its funding comes from NSERC, the Province of Manitoba, the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba Hydro, and other industries. The Water Resources Engineering Group hosts the NSERC/Manitoba Hydro Industrial Research Chair in River Ice Engineering, a state of the art hydraulics research and testing facility that includes state-of-the-art teaching laboratories, and is at the forefront of the development of Canadian regional isotope sampling network and coupled isotope hydrologic modeling in Canada.
The Department of Civil Engineering (www.umanitoba.ca/civil) has twenty one faculty members, twelve support staff, and approximately two hundred and seventy undergraduate and one hundred and thirty graduate students. One third of faculty members and support staff, and twenty percent of students are female.
